This table was commissioned for a prestigious Law Firm partner that wanted to add some warmth and individual beauty to his new office space. The stock used for the top has been ecologically harvested from the redwood forest from trees that have been burned or fallen from the wild fires.
What makes this table so interesting is that it is just a cross section from a medium sized branch. After we chose this we found that the trunk section had been evaluated andwe came to find out this tree had been dead for more than 300 years. It is very possible that this tree was a seedling when Christ walked the earth.
After cutting into slabs the wood was stacked and dried for several years. prior to it coming into our shop. As you can imagine we wanted to do something that made this piece stand out so we filled the voids with tinted aqua blue epoxy. After leveling and sanding smooth, we poured 3 coats of table top epoxy (spreading and leveling with gloved hands) and quite honestly the blue highlights are beautiful, but are only a close second to the natural beauty of the wood itself. It is warm and the high gloss shine invites you to reach out and touch it.
We chose contemporary legs to give it a strong look but not take away from the mesmerizing beauty of the table top itself.
