Sometimes no is not an option. We then often turn to Google hoping for an answer and that answer sometimes is that part is not longer available and does not exist on the open market.
The customer has an older Bachmann HO locomotive with cracked and broken drive couplers from the 1950's. It is his adult son's locomotive and hoped to surprise him with the repair as a gift.
After an extensive internet search revealed no replacement parts were to be had, it seemed like the next step was to have a replacement part made to order.

Necessity is the mother of invention. There ar times when certain tools or processes create odors that you want to reduce or better control. When 3D printing ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene) or ultra violet cured resin, there can be a strong odor dues to the heat in printing ABS filament and curing of the resin. After much research into various methods of controlling these specific odors it was determined that an activated charcoal air filter would complete the task of reducing the order.
Lithophane have been around for nearly 200 years. A lithophane is an image etched on to translucent material that is is then backlit to show the image on the front. The process of creating this photographic artwork can be through physically carving the materials, chemically or in the case of these samples 3D printed.
This project was was for use at home. We have a room that we use where all of the furniture covers the wall outlets ... except one. That one is directly opposite the door when when you walk in. So when you want to charge your phone or tablet in that room the device sits on the floor by the door.
It would sure be nice if that outlet had a shelf on it! An outlet shelf? Yes, an outlet shelf. It is what you get when you merge an outlet cover with a shelf. It can hold your stuff off the floor or away from the sink in the bathroom. Buy On eBay Now.
Another day, another project. This time it was wet work. A customer contacted us looking to have a discontinued part for his 2004 Kadey Krogen Trawler 39 foot vessel created. After years of reliable use his scupper flap locks were starting to fail.
Client, "Can you make a scupper flap lock?"
Me, "Of course we can. What is it and do you have a sample?"
We have been work on a few Live edge river tables and our lumber supplier had these nice size rounds perfect for side tables.
We cut the round to about 6 inches thick then milled out the center. After flooding with opening with layers of clear epoxy and died epoxy, we have this translucent table top. After sanding and polishing, we added under lighting to bring out the excitement trapped beneath the surfice.
Rough-hewn legs were added to make is gorgeous side table height piece.
Necessity is the mother of invention. I work on my computer for many hours every day. With all of the new security on web sites I found myself wishing I had a cell phone stand so I can read my 2 Factor Authentications code when logging in to secure web sites like banking or PayPal etc.
When my phone is flat on the desk its hard to read and I need two hands to type the code that will gone in just a few seconds. Buy on eBay now.
This model was created to form a wall mount bracket for a towel hook. The bracket was 3D printed from PETG thermal plastic and mounted with #8 screws. The wire hook is a 5mm steel wire with robin egg blue powder coat.
The bracket mounts to the wall and allows the hook to fold against the wall when not in use.
This hand painted relief carving was designed for the outside of a sea chest. The idea was to create a fun and lively decor.
The carving measures 12" x 6" x 3/4" in size and was cut from straight grain pine. After carving it was handed over to our in house artist to create a color palette and bring this carving to life with color. The layering of colors and a touch of iridescent shimmer on her scales really makes for a beautiful piece.
It can be the little things in life that need fixing the most. Not long ago we were asked if we can make replacement pulls for Hunter Douglas blinds. The original pulls crack and fall apart over time.
We modeled a matching part. See item in image on left compared original pull on right. I test fit the insert ... Bing ... Bang ... Boom Bob's your uncle and new part was born. I made 10 total. The insert is a nice snug fit. This one happens to be White, however, we could create in many colors.
I'm toying with the idea of maybe making these pulls with some character e.g. maybe like a chess piece or snowman.
An tech person contacted us with a request. They often carried many USB flash drives in their pocket. When they needed one they would reach into their pocket fishing for one only to find they grabbed the wrong USB flash drive.
After a short interview, it was decided that a USB case or some kind of carrier would be the way to go. Since this was going into a pocket a case with a lid was not an option as it would be too bulky. In the end we went with a 4 up bandolier designed to friction fit the brand of USB flash drives used.
We modeled a the initial part and sent the client rendering of the part for review. Once we had approval on the design, we printed one for testing fitting the friction fit. Fit and finish were excellent. We delivered 4 units to the client.

To limit touching door handles to open doors or the touch required for pushing putting a new tool was born. The door hook. Easy to use, easy to wash, it limits your contact with surfaces that could be contaminated.
We designed this door hook by taking a few measurements of common door handles. The little nub on the hook end prevents slipping. These hooks are created by 3D printing them with PETG thermal plastic in a variety of colors.
A customer contacted us with original Viking wolf artwork he wanted to have cut from wood. They would be used in a rustic all season room to dress up the beam supports.
We traced the supplied artwork to create the cutting paths of the wolf heads. Before making our finish cut we cut a sample out of foam for the client to approve and test the cutting paths.
The completed work was cut from pine and left finished.
Stable owner contacted Next Dimension Fabworks to have signs created for their stable stalls. They have two work horses Pearl and Norman who pull carts and take people for hay rides. They needs a little more recognition for their services.
We converted a photo for cutting and made sure the names could be read from at least 3 stalls way. For high contrast the cut image and letters were filled with black and the entire site sealed.
